Pam's Red, White and Black

Pam's quilt is ready to go =)

I chose a freehand edge to edge swirl/flower for her quilt.

I wanted to give it consistent texture because of the busy fabrics.

I added a touch of the E2E design in the border to add a little fun.

Pam chose the perfect gray flannel for her backing.  Love!

Gorgeous and cozy!

On the machine today

I'm working of a fun nautical themed quilt today.

I decided to go more modern than whimsical with the quilting.
Wish I knew someone that was into sailing, this would be a fun quilt to make!

Kathleen's quilt has left the building

What a beauty!

It's been awhile since I've quilted this pattern.

It never ceases to amaze me how tiny some of the piecing is.

I love the movement.

This is largest size quilt in this pattern I've quilted,

I sure admire the amount of work that went into it.

Muddy Boots Day

In my last post I mentioned Muddy Boots Day.  A while back I attended my first sew day for the Portland Modern Quilt Guild.  Oh my goodness fun!!  Unfortunately it doesn't always hit on days I can make it.  I kept wishing there was somewhere closer to home that friends could meet at.

And then it hit me, what about the church gym!  After a year of procrastinating I asked if we could schedule the gym for women (and men) who are wanting space to spread out their projects and spend a day of creating and visiting.  I say "creating" because for some reason the word "crafting" really bugs me, lol.  The word craft sounds like a project using Popsicle sticks, which is fine for a project using Popsicle sticks.  But something made from fabric is so much more to me.  It's an art!

So Muddy Boots Day was born!

The last two months I've worked on my cross quilt, aka O Positive.

I now have 130 blocks!!  Boy are they wonky!

But I love it, wonky and all.  It's just character, right?

I've learned that I sew very slowly in group settings so I can hear the conversation over my machine.  Either I need to oil more or accept that this quilt is a long term project, lol.

“Portland’s Bridges – A Modern Interpretation” #2

After not working on my first bridge quilt for about 2 months I've started cutting out quilt #2!  I'm loving all the bright colors.  What a contrast to my almost all gray first quilt.  I'm committed to finishing #1 before I begin sewing #2 though......does that count?  I think I just needed to see some color!   And this is fitting the bill.  Happiness =)

Here's the basic's on The Pine Needle's Portland Bridge Challenge.

We have been challenged to design and create
a modern quilt inspired by one of the bridges
over the Willamette River.
“Portland’s Bridges – A Modern Interpretation”
will be showcased at the NW Quilting Expo
in September of 2014.

Speaking of The Pine Needle, I fell in love with this quilt while at the Modern Group's meeting this week.  The pattern is by Jenny Pedigo at Sew Kind of Wonderful.  I've always loved her work and I think I'm going to have to add this one to my Quilts to Finish list.  #32!  (I've already started about 22 of them so it will be a while before I get to it)

Oops I almost forgot, I'm about half way threw making my cross blocks.  They aren't in any special order so the blue is a little clumped up in the picture.  I have about 25 more blocks not up yet.  And about 70 more to make.  Yikes!  For a non piecer that's a lot of blocks, lol.  I'm so happy I went with the red/orange and aqua theme.  I'm really liking it.  I worked on it at our first Muddy Boots Day.  While I was sewing a woman asked if the crosses represented the Red Cross.  Made me giggle.  But come to think of it, that would be very appropriate for my husband.  Apparently he has a much desired blood type and gets calls to come in as often as allowed.  Hmmm does that mean it has a name....Chad's Blood Quilt?  A little creepy, yet quite fitting for my Halloween loving husband =)
